Recycled Glass

Glass recycling is one of the oldest and more popular of the forms of recycling that goes on.  It wasn’t that long ago when you could return used bottles on the promise of a few pennies.  Most recycled glass is turned into what is called glass cullet. This is very fine ground up glass that can be used to produce other glassware, such as new bottles. Glass shards from broken bottles are also being mixed with asphalt for road base. Recycling glass saves energy. Making glass from raw material such as soda and pot ash requires the material to be heated to 1800 degrees and then held for 45 minutes. When remanufacturing glass, the glass pellets need only be heated to 1400 degrees.

But old glass and bottles can be used for more decorative items too......
