Southwest Decor

What I love about southwest
decor is the use of wood, stone,
natural elements and colors.












There's an openness
to the room.










And then I saw this piece
and wondered....
could I paint my
hope chest to look
like this?
a splash of turquoise
would look great!









A little bit of whimsy
with these colored pots
would add a nice touch
as well :)












And then I spied this  piece.
I have no living room furniture
because nothing seemed to
look right for the size and
shape of my room.

But THIS would be perfect
and suits me. 
$1400 for the loveseat.

Southwest Style

Lately, I've been fascinated with southwestern style when it comes to homes, and decorating.  I found a few images in library books to share:



What a commanding fireplace,
the center of attention ....
(would rather that than the TV!)












I really liked the use of natural stone
in this fireplace.  A stack of stone
holds up one end... very unique!

The ceiling adds a lot of texture
to the room as well.

The washstand here is made

with saguaro ribs after the

stately cactus has died.

They're lightweight but very sturdy.

Most southwest decorating isnt

an overabundance of stuff

spaces are left open

I wonder if the extreme heat

has something to do with it?

certainly less clutter gives

the appearance of feeling cooler.

Liking this very simple desk.

I'm definitely fascinated by the
half round fireplaces, especially
the ones that are fitted into a corner.

whimsical, 

and on its own terms,

very practical as well.

Simple garden gate

with local use sticks

and painted a very pretty blue

Front door porches

tend to be deep,

offering lots of shade

from the summer heat.

Simple bench,

and I like the window

casings as well.

Can't leave out the bathroom,

a big claw footed tub looks

very cool and relaxing 

and a very rustic

looking kitchen

with lots of pine!!

I like the natural wood look

Bedrooms, boho/southwest

A bedroom with a fireplace seems redundant in the southwest's heat, 

but desert nights can be cool, how nice a cheerful fire would be!  - Link

I keep looking at different southwestern motifs lately, wondering how I can upgrade my own home with some of these great features.  I realize that its a process, but until one decides on a motif at all, its hard to begin working toward any kind of goal.  I've got a perfect corner in my room for a fireplace -- even if it were just fake, it would look lovely!  Or maybe in the living room.... ahhh the choices, decisions.  But it sure is fun looking!  :)
